Troll Bridge Lettering - Materials: The Sword (Blade and Wood)

The sword going through the lettering was as worn and ragged as Cohen himself. We only had a clean sword model that wasn't made for close-ups at that point so I recreated the blade and parts of the hilt in Modo. After extracting a PBR texture set from on high resolution photographs of the sword's blade, it was time for enhancement to round it up better to a Discworld look.

I built on the extracted blade materials with Substance Designer and created some controllable damage for both blade and wood parts. I blended the new damaged and aged wood with the hilt we previously had (because it had a nice incidence angle reaction at the joining areas and I wanted to keep that).

The old leather parts were for enhancing the existing wrapping texture and give it some "life". I painted the darker ones in where the bands overlapped and the greasier ones where the hand would grip the most.

My "Paint Buckets" for the sword's blade and wooden handle.
